Simply majestic – “A falling star fell from your heart and landed in my eyes…”

Florence and the Machine – Cosmic Love

The Drums sound like Robert Smith’s (the Cure) younger brother on vocal duty with the bassist from Vampire Weekend channeling the Beach Boys through an indie filter live on Venice Beach. And that, my friends, is a recipe for indie-surf pop confections glistening like wet rocks under the sun! Do yourself a favor and check their Myspace page or their official band website page.

(Yes, she did change her name from Santogold to Santigold) Yesterday I turned on my CD turntables to do some mixing (which I hadn’t done in far too long) and was pleasantly surprised by a song that had fallen off my radar. It took me a second to identify the track through the bass thumping, and it turned out to be Santi’s “L.E.S. Artistes” remixed by Left/Right. Dope intro! This song has really great playability and flexibility in regards to messing around on the DJ decks… Crank da bass!

Santigold – L.E.S. Artistes (Left/Right Remix)

I honestly don’t know what to say or how to feel about this song. The intro and climax are phenomenal. The melody is nearly coma-inducing in its euphoric jaunt, but then it all goes… BLAH! The melody is so fierce and then Ingrosso just lets it die after the climax. It’s like two completely separate songs mashed into one, and it simply does not make sense to me. Why would he build up such an engrossing and beautiful track to just let it saunter off almost as if it was meaningless? Don’t get me wrong the beat it transitions to is good, nothing mind-blowing, but it still has a decent ass shake-ability quality to it. Sebastian’s Myspace

I feel Ingrosso could have really fleshed out and elaborated on the initial idea… it’s still a choice song though, for the most part.

I think I can safely speak for the majority of the indie crowd when I say that Imogen Heap’s “Hide and Seek” has been spun enough times to span a lifetime and that it’s essentially become a completely clichéd “emotional” indie pop confection (well, not so indie anymore, but hey we had it first). In fact, it’s almost to the point where the song has been stripped of all of its endearing poignancy and significance… but the vocoder-ladden track has been getting a resurgence, at least for me, via several cleverly done remixes.
I HIGHLY recommend DMoeFunk’s Sardines Remix – it may not be your typical cup of tea; however, its uniqueness and off-hand interpretation gives it the upper hand compared to the other more conventional edits.

The DVW remix gives a nice minimal-esque Spring feel to the song… and the others are more dancey. Obviously.

I’m feeling both inept and unwilling to categorize or apply words to this song. Just listen to it. It might change your life.

Matthew Dear – Deserter

Bright Yellow Sun

This song delves to the depths of ethereal expanses. Channeling all the positive vibes that emanate from the core of your being into a sonically bombastic wall of sound. It defies space, time, and gravity in its epic journey towards the center of consciousness.

Unity.

Under the big bright yellow sun…

Fatboy Slim – Song For Shelter

Rafael Lenz killed this remix! I know there about a million and one remixes of Phoenix’s “1901″, but Rafael is steering ahead of the pack with this disco edit. I don’t know how no one else has picked up on this one by now – it’s gold! It’s driven by nice crisp percussion and a thick bass line and layered with dreamy synths here and there. Jammin’.

Yesterday I was listening to some classic Death Cab For Cutie via iTunes shuffle, and the thought crossed my mind – I don’t think I have ever heard a Death Cab remix – so I went on a hunt for some remixes. After quite a few searches I had only turned up with two quality remixes: “Marching Bands of Manhattan” and “Brothers On A Hotel Bed”. Both of which were pleasantly surprising…

Marching Bands gets a club treatment from dance artist Blake Jarrell whose remixes and bootlegs are fairly tough to come by according to several forum topics relating to Blake.

Brothers On A Hotel Bed was remixd by a duo called Bachelors of Science and they give the song a genuinely inspired reinterpretation with a lo-fi influenced drum and bass masterpiece. There’s also a cool video for the song on Youtube. It’s truly an ethereal experience, so I suggest you crank up the volume on this…
